Kojic Acid
Kojic acid is a by-productin the production of sake (Japanese rice wine). Animal studies and in vitro and in vivo research have shown that kojic acid to be beneficial for brightening skin tone.
What are the benefits?
Kojic acid is a skin-brightening agent with antioxidant properties. Kojic acid is one of the ingredients which inhibits tyrosinase. Tyrosinase is the enzyme responsible for the initial synthesis of melanin. By inhibiting Tyrosinase, kojic acid reduces melanin overproduction and lightens pigmentations. When combined with allantoin and other appropriate ingredients in sunscreen preparations, the formulation can inhibit UV-caused erythema and helps wound healing. See also: Antioxidant
