What are the benefits?
Galactoarabinan (GA) is a multifunctional ingredient that acts as a humectant and exfoliant. GA can deposit a transparent film in aqueous solutions, producing or assisting in the formation of an occlusive environment. This prevents transepidermal water loss, and improves the versatility of a formulation's active ingredients.
Furthermore, GA can increase particle dispersion and emulsion droplet uniformity, resulting in a more stable emulsion and potentially more efficacious formulation, particularly in the case of sunscreens. GA has been shown to improve AHA exfoliation activity without increasing irritation to the skin and it also has its own exfoliant properties regardless of the presence of AHA in a solution, aiding in the minimising the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
